RUI Press develops and disseminates consequential thinking about human capability in a changing world. We connect research, theory, and practice so that important ideas can move beyond publication and contribute to how people learn, lead, work, decide, create, and develop.
Our premise
The central question is changing.
For much of modern history, knowledge and expertise were scarce. Education, organizations, and professional systems were built around helping people acquire and apply that scarce knowledge.
Intelligent technologies are changing that condition. Information, analysis, expertise, and increasingly sophisticated forms of cognitive assistance are becoming abundant and immediately accessible.
What must humans become more capable of doing when intelligent tools can do more for us?
RUI Press exists to pursue this question without reducing it to technology alone. It is a question about learning, judgment, leadership, work, institutions, human development, and the conditions that allow people to translate knowledge into meaningful action.

Our mission is to identify, develop, publish, and circulate rigorous and useful ideas that strengthen understanding of human capability and the environments in which it develops. Publishing is one expression of that mission, not its boundary.

Cultivate promising ideas through research, scholarship, synthesis, reflection, and sustained intellectual work.
Connect
Bring disciplines and communities into conversation when a question cannot be adequately understood from a single perspective.
Disseminate
Move consequential thinking into forms that scholars, practitioners, leaders, educators, and institutions can encounter and use.
What guides our work
We care about the quality of an idea and what it makes possible.
Consequential
We are interested in ideas that address questions, problems, and possibilities that genuinely matter to people, institutions, and society.
Rigorous
We value intellectual responsibility, evidence, clear reasoning, and appropriate engagement with the scholarship and practice surrounding an idea.
Accessible
Important ideas should be capable of traveling beyond narrow disciplinary communities without sacrificing their substance or integrity.
Transferable
We are especially interested in work that can influence judgment, inquiry, practice, design, leadership, or further investigation.
An interdisciplinary orientation
Human capability does not belong to one discipline.
Questions about how people develop, exercise judgment, adapt, perform, and create draw from education, psychology, philosophy, organizational studies, leadership, performance improvement, technology, and other fields. RUI Press welcomes the tension and insight that emerge when those perspectives meet.
Theory and practice
Scholarship should be capable of entering the world.
We value theory because it helps explain. We value evidence because it disciplines our claims. And we value practice because consequential ideas eventually encounter real people, real organizations, and real constraints. Our work seeks productive movement among all three.

RUI Press works with scholars, researchers, educators, practitioners, leaders, and experienced professionals whose work can contribute meaningfully to research, practice, or public understanding. We are interested in the strength and relevance of the idea, not merely the institutional category of the person developing it.
